Gadwal Handloom Silk Sarees – Heritage of Elegance

History & Legacy
Gadwal handloom silk sarees come from the historic town of Gadwal in Telangana, a weaving tradition that is over 200 years old. These sarees flourished under royal patronage and are still treasured today as symbols of grace and tradition. In fact, Gadwal sarees have earned the prestigious Geographical Indication (GI) tag of India.

Crafting Process
Each Gadwal saree is a masterpiece woven with:

  • Silk body for lustrous elegance
  • Rich zari borders & pallus, often woven separately and then interlocked by hand using the famous Kuppadam technique.

This intricate process can take 8 days to 3 weeks for a single saree, depending on the design. Motifs often feature temple towers, peacocks, floral vines, and paisleys, bringing cultural beauty into every weave.

Unique Features

  • Lightweight & Comfortable – Despite their grandeur, Gadwal sarees are airy and easy to drape.
  • Matchbox Fold – Traditional Gadwals are so finely woven they can be folded to fit inside a matchbox!
  • Contrast Magic – Known for striking contrasts between the body, border, and pallu.
  • Cultural Treasure – Perfect for weddings, festivals, and timeless heirlooms.

In handloom weaving, “count” refers to the fineness of yarn:

    • A 100 count Gadwal saree is woven with very fine silk yarn, making it:
      • Lighter in weight
      • Softer and smoother in texture
      • Extremely elegant with a luxurious drape

The higher the count, the finer the yarn – which means more delicacy, skill, and time go into weaving. This is why 100 count Gadwal sarees are prized as premium, heirloom-quality creations.
